Sometimes you read something that clicks deep within you. It can be Shakespeare, Hemingway, Heller, Lee Child (aye, I just did that), or it can be a simple quote from anyone. A meme or even the side of an advertisement – inspiration is all around us.
The following quote has hit a lot on the head for me on so many levels. It has also provided me with my new favourite saying.
WHO SHOOK THE JAR?
“If you collect 100 black ants and 100 fire ants and put them in a glass jar, nothing will happen.
But if you take the jar, shake it violently and leave it on the table, the ants will start killing each other.
Red believes the black the enemy, while black believes that red is the enemy, when the real enemy is the person who shook the jar.
The same is true in society.
Men vs Women.
Black vs White
Faith vs Science
Young vs Old
Before we fight each other, we must ask ourselves:
Who shook the jar?”
When I feel like I am rattled or I see conflict rising in my life, I will pause and embrace my stoic philosophy to slow my reaction down.
Then I will ask myself the question, “Who shook the jar?”
That is it for me today.
